Mr. Bepo remembered how he first joined Stardom Schools after a bad experience at his former workplace, Beesway Group of School (which, according to him, should have been called Beesway Group of Schools). He had corrected the grammar in the school’s name, but the director, Mr. Egi Meko, mocked him and refused to change it, claiming the name was “divinely inspired.” When parents later raised the same complaint at a PTA meeting, the director accused Bepo of influencing them, even though he hadn’t.
The real reason Bepo left Beesway, however, was because of something shocking he witnessed. One night, from his staff quarters, he saw some men with a cow. They led it toward a pit, and when he went closer with a machete, he was shocked to see the school director among them. When Bepo protested against what looked like a ritual, one of the men hit him on the head. The director stopped the men from harming him further, took him back to his room, and then continued with his “dark assignment.”
This incident reminded Bepo of his earlier struggles when he and a colleague started their own school, Fruitful Future School.
The school grew to about 70 pupils in its third session, but one parent, Mr. Ogo, suggested that Bepo perform a ritual to quickly attract more students. Bepo refused, and Mr. Ogo withdrew his child. Later, when the area became deserted because of bad roads, the school collapsed. Years later, Bepo learned that the same Mr. Ogo murdered a woman after collecting ₦9 million from her for fake spiritual help.
The morning after the cow ritual, Bepo packed his belongings before reporting to the director’s office. The director apologized for the attack and tried to cover up the incident, claiming the ritual was just a prayer for his late father who gave him the school land.
