WAEC Christian Religious Studies Syllabus
Exambot Syllabus Guide 2025/2026
This 2025 WAEC syllabus for Christian Religious Studies applies to both internal and external candidates. It is designed to help students gain knowledge, moral understanding, and spiritual maturity through biblical studies.
- Gain knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of the religious, cultural, historical, and social background of biblical materials.
- Understand moral lessons in selected biblical passages and apply them to present-day life, including social, political, and cultural situations.
- Identify challenges in applying biblical values and attitudes to promote peace and national development.
- Demonstrate readiness for higher education through critical thinking and independent study.
This subject may not be taken together with Islamic Religious Studies or West African Traditional Religion.
There will be two composite papers taken in one sitting.
Candidates will answer four questions in total, choosing at least one from each section and the fourth from either Section A or Section B. The Revised Standard Version of the Bible will be used for the exam.
📖Section A: Themes from the Old Testament
- The Sovereignty of God: God the Creator and Controller of the universe.
- Leadership Roles: Joseph, Moses, Joshua, and Deborah.
- Parental Responsibility: Eli and Samuel; the consequences of Saul’s disobedience.
- Submission to God’s Will: The life of David, his sin, repentance, and forgiveness.
- Making Decisions: The wisdom of Solomon and the mistakes of Solomon and Rehoboam.
- Supremacy of God: Elijah at Mount Carmel and religious tensions under Ahab’s reign.
- Greed and Its Effects: The actions of Ahab and Gehazi.
- Religious Reforms: The reign and reforms of King Josiah.
- Concern for One’s Nation: The state of the nation and the prophets’ responses.
- Faith in God: Courage and power through faith.
- True Religion and Justice: Amos’ message of justice and Hosea’s teaching on God’s love.
✝️Section B: Themes from the Synoptic Gospels and Acts of the Apostles
- Baptism and Temptation of Jesus: The baptism and temptation experiences.
- The Call and Demands of Discipleship.
- Forgiveness: Jesus’ teaching on forgiveness and reconciliation.
- The Trials of Jesus: Gethsemane, Peter’s denial, condemnation, crucifixion, and resurrection.
- Fellowship in the Early Church: The role of unity, sharing, and faith among believers.
- The Holy Spirit and Mission to the Gentiles: Pentecost, missionary journeys, and opposition to the gospel.

- The Epistle of James: Faith and works, impartiality, and effective prayer.
- The First Epistle of Peter: Good citizenship, living among non-Christians, and maintaining good relationships among believers.
